(OSGOOD, Ind.) – The Osgood community is mourning the loss of a beloved resident and entrepreneur.
Jerry Vollmer was 18-years-old when he began a career in insurance and a few years later he opened his first office in Osgood.
“As the business grew, he relocated several times, each move marking expansion and progress,” a family member said.
Vollmer would go on to create the company Voldico Insurance in 2011 which now has a national presence.
Jerry has passed away at the age of 66 and the loss is felt across the community.
“From growing local businesses to nurturing community spirit, he led with kindness and purpose. His legacy will be felt for generations to come,” the Osgood Beautification League wrote on Facebook.
Vollmer was a 1977 Jac-Cen-Del graduate and never forgot his roots as an Eagle.
Every year, he included high school art students to help carve pumpkins for the Town of Osgood.
“After completing the carving, Jerry invited Art Club students for gutting and setting up the finished pumpkins which always included pizza and a day out of school for the students,” the Jac-Cen-Del art program wrote.
Jerry was a member of numerous organizations including the Jaycees, Osgood Lions Club, Osgood Beautification Committee and the Osgood Fire Department.
“He also contributed his leadership to the Economic Development Board and the Margaret Mary Community Foundation,” his family added.
The family added, “In keeping close to his roots, Jerry and his brothers continued farming together, proudly carrying on the traditions of the Vollmer family farm that had been worked for generations.”
A few years ago, Jerry also left an impact on a young photographer named Carson Hughes.
He allowed Carson to take a photos on the farm. Carson's family shared this photo Monday night:

Jerry’s visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday and funeral services will take place on Monday, July 7. You can read Jerry's complete obituary by clicking here.
