(OSGOOD, Ind.) – A longtime Town of Osgood employee is receiving statewide recognition.
Tony Wood has been named the Waste Water Specialist of the Year by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.
He was congratulated on the award by Commonwealth Engineers who said, “Tony’s dedication, expertise, and hard work have truly set a high standard in the wastewater industry. Well-deserved recognition for a job exceptionally well done!”
Wood has worked for the Town since 1992 and has served as the Waste Water Superintendent the entire duration.
He has also been the superintendent of the Water Department for the past eight years.
Overseeing those departments require around-the-clock attention due to unexpected equipment breakdowns and emergencies can occur at any time.
That is all part of the job as Wood says everyday is different, which is something he has learned to embrace.
“It is never the same everyday, and it is difficult to make a plan for the day as unexpected things happen, things break, or someone needs immediate attention,” Wood said. “A lot of people probably don’t realize what we all do here, and it is a lot more than meets the eye.
Wood has given presentations to industry peers as well as young adults over the years.
Most high schoolers aren’t considering jobs in utilities or city governments, but Wood says those positions can bring a comfortable lifestyle while making a difference in your community.
He says he appreciates the award but is also recognizing the many others who work hard everyday but don’t get the same attention.
“There are a lot of good folks behind the scenes that provide a lot of public service that don’t get a lot of recognition who do a really good job for their communities or cities,” Wood said.
