PD: Man shot self during police encounter Shelbyville

(SHELBYVILLE, Ind.) – The Shelbyville Police Department says a person took their own life during an incident on Thursday.
The police department received a tip from the Indiana Gaming Commission that a person of interest from Terre Haute was possibly traveling into Shelbyville.
Officers were looking for a blue Chevy pickup when they located one in the Church of the Nazarene parking lot on South State Road 9.
“Additional officers responded to assist, and officers attempted to make contact with the occupant of the vehicle,” Shelbyville Police stated.
Police say the person had what appeared to be a shotgun and fatally shot themself.
“No officers discharged their firearms, and no law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident,” the department added.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation.
