(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public about scam phone calls.
The scammers will clone the phone number of the sheriff’s department and claim to work there.
They will try to convince citizens that they have a warrant, missed a court hearing, have outstanding fines or failed to register as a sex offender.
“Our deputies will not call and ask for any form of payment over the telephone! Do not provide them any personal or banking information! Do not send gift cards,” the department stated.
Police will never ask for any form of payment over the telephone.
If you receive these scam calls, or suspect a call is a scam, please hang up and contact the department at (765) 647-4138 to speak with a deputy.
