(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – Construction is continuing on a project that was made possible by Oldenburg Academy students.

The Maypole Heritage Project includes the resurfacing of the basketball court along with a walking trail that connects to the town’s existing sidewalks and trails.

The project came to life after OA students launched a fundraising campaign where they raised more than $25,000, which led to a state matching grant for a total of $50,000.

“The Maypole Heritage Park project is a shining example of what can happen when our community comes together,” said Innovation Council moderator Jason Walke.

The Freudenfest Committee and the Town of Oldenburg also secured a grant through the Indiana DNR for the walking trail.

The path will feature memorial benches, with plans to eventually add a

community gathering shelter and landscaping

The basketball court will also include three pickleball courts once its complete.
