(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – Genesis: Pathways to Success held a LEGO Building Camp as part of their Summer of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) series.
There were 19 students from across the area who spent 2 days building LEGO’s, storytelling and learning simple mechanics.
One of the assignments tasked students to build a LEGO bridge using specific math and engineering requirements while working as a team.
“Every brick challenges us to think creatively, work together, and bounce back when things fall apart—literally and figuratively. Science and Engineering is limitless, but constrained to universal properties of physics and motion the same way that there is a limited quantity of LEGO brick shapes, but they can be used to make anything,” camp volunteer John Goewert said.
Another assignment had groups of students focus on an era of time, ranging from Medieval to the future.
The Industrial Era students built a conveyor belt, the Futuristic group built a plane and a cave and the 21st Century group built a theme park.
Students ended camp presenting their stories to 5 judges, who then chose the top 3 based on design, story, and mechanics. Each student was awarded a small LEGO award for all their hard work during camp.
