President-elect Trump vows to sign Tiktok executive order

The social media app disappeared from American phones Sunday

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – TikTok returned for users in the United States on Sunday, after going dark for several hours.

On Sunday morning, incoming President Donald Trump said he will issue an executive order before a law that bans it in the Unites States to take effect.

He also said that the order will also remove liability from any company that helped keep the app from going dark before the order.

President Trump said he plans to sign the executive order on Monday after he is inaugurated.

“I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture.  By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to [stay] up.  Without U.S. approval, there is no Tik Tok,”  President Trump posted on Truth Social.

TikTok disappeared for approximately 170 million American users late Saturday night.

It followed a bipartisan bill that was signed into law the Chinese owners of TikTok to sell to American buyers by January 19.

The law was created due to fears of the app’s foreign owners using data to manipulate or harm Americans.
