Texas teen found guilty of murder at track meet

Updated: Jun 9

(FRISCO, TX) – A Texas jury has found a teenager guilty of murder in the death of a student-athlete from a rival school.

17-year-old Austin Metcalf was stabbed to death during a track meet in Frisco in 2025.

Karmelo Anthony, now 19, had initially pleaded not guilty and claimed self-defense.

The jury deliberated for three hours today before finding Anthony guilty, while weighing a lesser charge of manslaughter.

Following the verdict of murder, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. He will have to serve at least half that sentence before he is eligible for parole.

The case drew national attention due in part to its racial dynamics.
