ISP Trooper was killed while helping stranded motorist

(NEW POINT, Ind.) – An Osgood native and law enforcement officer is being remembered on the anniversary of his passing.
Indiana State Police Trooper Andrew Winzenread was patrolling I-74 near New Point on April 25, 1997.
He came across a stranded driver who had ran out of gas.
Winzenread stopped to help the driver and that is when he was struck and killed by a semi.
The stranded motorist was also struck but escaped with minor injuries.
Winzenread was 26-years-old and was survived by his wife and 1-month-old daughter.
He had served with the Indiana State Police for two years and was assigned to the Versailles Post.
In 2009, I-74 near New Point was dedicated as the Trooper Andrew P. Winzenread Memorial Highway in his honor.
