Rep. Houchin vying for 3rd House leadership position

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-District 9) is running for Chair of the House Republican Conference.

It’s the third-ranking GOP position in the House and the role is currently held by Michigan Congresswoman Lisa McClain.

Rep. Houchin is vying for the position following the Democrats’ Election night win where they regained the majority of both the House and Senate.

She emphasized the importance of effective communication and messaging as key factors to the Republicans getting the House majority back.

She is a public relations professional who holds a Master’s degree in political management and is also a  graduate of the  Women’s Campaign School at Yale.

“I’ve spent over twenty years in public relations, communications, and campaigns. Now, I’m running for Chair of the House Republican Conference to put that experience to work for all of you,” Rep. Houchin said in a letter.

Rep. Houchin serves on the House Rules Committee, the House Budget Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The House Republic conference develops communications strategies, helps determine committee assignments and elects the party’s House leadership.

Rep. Houchin also issued a statement on Thursday following the Mid-Term Elections:

"The dust is settling in Washington after a true defeat, and I’m focused on the path forward. My commitment to the people of Indiana’s 9th District is resolute and unchanged. My constituents believe in me, and I won’t let them down.

But voters sent a clear message to us. The status quo is unacceptable. Democrats may read this as a mandate to push radical policies that will hurt taxpayers and families. But I believe we will come back stronger. In the minority, though we don’t control the gavel or the schedule, we can fight back against the most harmful policies and keep the American people informed along the way. Most importantly, we must take time to listen, understand and make our case for why our vision for the future is the vision others should support. I look forward to the challenges ahead. We have built back before and we will do it again. I am honored to serve and appreciate each and every vote!"
