Will take place at Dillsboro Civic Center

(DILLSBORO, Ind.) – Did you know that there was a Dillsboro native who served as the head of the LAPD’s Hollywood Homicide Division?
Russell Kuster served on the LAPD for 24 years and was killed in the line of duty after a shootout at a Los Angeles restaurant in 1990.
A tribute for Kuster will be held at the Dillsboro Civic Club at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.
Rick Jackson and Ernie Barret, both retired homicide detectives with LAPD, will be in attendance to talk about Kuster.
“Ernie knew Russ going back to their patrol days, then later worked for Russ during the 1980’s and into the 1990’s in the Homicide Division. Rick worked with Russ in the Homicide Unit during most of the 1980’s decade,” organizers said.
“They will discuss Russ’s constant reference to growing up in Dillsboro, and his yearly returns to visit his family on the farm,” they added.
Jackson was one of the inspirations in the development of “Detective Harry Bosch” by author Michael Connelly.
The event is sponsored by the Dillsboro Heritage Legacy. The public is encouraged to attend.
