(OSGOOD, Ind.) -- Firefighters in Ripley County were busy on Thursday night.
Versailles and Osgood fire departments were battling a barn fire that had spread to the home on County Road 25 South near Perry Street.
“Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly and saved the residence,” Versailles Fire Chief Ben Sieverding said.
Crews were leaving the scene when they both got dispatched to another emergency.
Versailles was called to the Tyson School Apartments for a fire alarm. They checked the scene and confirmed there was no fire.
However, Osgood firefighters were called to a structure fire on West County Road 175 North near North Hasmer Hill Road.
Osgood Fire Chief Kyle Negangard says a brushfire had spread to a nearby house and good Samaritans rescued the homeowner.
“When Osgood arrived on scene, a detached barn and attached carport was fully engulfed by flames that had spread to the attic of the house,” Negangard said.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire from entering the living area of the home and extinguished the fire in the attic, carport, ban and about an acre of lane.
Osgood was assisted on scene by Napoleon Fire, Delaware Fire, Milan Fire, Ripley County EMS and Southeastern Indiana REMC. The incident lasted upwards of three hours
