Rising Sun Competitive Cheer wins HCCA title

(GREENFIELD, Ind.) – The Rising Sun Competitive Cheer team is bringing home the hardware! 

The Shiners earned the state championship in their division at the Hoosier Cheer Coaches Association (HCCA) Spirit State Championships in Greenfield. 

They qualified for the state tournament after a strong performance at a preliminary competition at North Central last weekend. 

Rising Sun senior Megan Daugherty reflected on the HCCA win by saying the state title is a reflection of their hard work.

"We have worked so incredibly hard for this moment and nobody understands the dedication and commitment we put into cheer. our quote this year for our team is 'our time is now' because we can’t just expect to be the best we have to work to be the best," Daugherty said.

She added, "I am so thankful for my coaches that push us to be the best we possibly can be and further. Our coaches put the same amount of effort into cheer as we do."

The team is led by head coach Heather Cook as well as JV coach Skylar Durham.

The Shiners will be back at it next weekend when they compete in the ICC State Finals in New Castle.

Switzerland County Competitive Cheer also qualified for the HCCA tournament.
