(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Scammers are attempting to take advantage of a Batesville family after a house fire this week.
Robert King and his family suffered the house fire near the intersection of Huntersville Road and West Pocket Road on Tuesday evening. It caused significant structural and smoke damage to the home.
They lost the majority of their belongings as a donation drive was immediately established by Dunlap Supply.
“We’re incredibly appreciative of the community and it has brought tears to our eyes to see all of the support,” King said.
However, they were appalled to discover that someone may be attempting to take advantage of the situation.
On Friday, King learned that someone created a fake Venmo account posing as him.
The fake account is using Rob’s name and photo and attempting to solicit funds from others.
He confirmed that he would never message someone out of the blue and ask for money or anything else.
King is urging the community to not donate to the Venmo account named @Muking202- .
If you do want to help the family, there is a link to the real donation page that has been verified. Click here to access the real fundraiser.
