Scammers pretend to be Ripley County deputy

ree

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – Another phone scam is targeting Ripley County residents by pretending to be law enforcement officials.

In several instances, the scammer pretends to be Sgt. Houseworth.

If that name sounds familiar, it's because Sgt. Houseworth is a former Ripley County deputy who retired last year.

There are other instances of the scammer pretending to be other deputies as well.

This is a scam.

The Sheriff’s Office will never ask for money over the phone.

“If you receive one of these calls, do not give them any information and hang up immediately,” the sheriff’s office said.

If you have any questions or need assurance, call the sheriff’s office at (812) 689-5558.
