Community members encouraged to show support

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – The community is asked to show support for a Ripley County man and longtime UPS driver before an upcoming life-saving procedure.
53-year-old Scott Fields, of Versailles, has worked for UPS since he was in high school. He’s been a delivery driver in the Batesville, Metamora and Laurel area for 25 years.
Fields was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer in July. After several rounds of chemotherapy and numerous oncologist visits, he will soon undergo a bone marrow transplant on March 11.
Fields didn’t have to look far to find someone who was willing to be a donor as his adult son, Luke, has volunteered to do so.
Scott will be forced to stay hospitalized in Kokomo for approximately two months following the March 11 transplant.
Community Invited to Special Send-Off
Scott and his wife, Dede, will be staying in Kokomo for the next several months because of the operation.
The Versailles Sons of the American Legion has organized a special sendoff that will take place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1.
The ‘Standing For Scott’ ceremony encourages community members to line the streets from the Versailles American Legion (119 S Washington Street) and toward the Courthouse Square.
"Come to wave hello or hold up a sign for Scott to see words of encouragement before he begins this next step of treatment," Dede said.
All community members are encouraged to take part in this send-off as it’s an opportunity to send well-wishes to Scott and his family ahead of the major transplant operation.
