(SHELBYVILLE, Ind.) – Several pets died despite lifesaving measures during a house fire in Shelbyville on Saturday.
The fire occurred around 1:15 p.m. at a home in the 700 block of Montgomery Street.
Shelbyville firefighters say they dealt with challenging hoarding conditions inside the home.
“Firefighters worked quickly to remove multiple cats and dogs from the structure,” the fire department said.
First responders provided several minutes of oxygen therapy and performed CPR on the animals.
“Unfortunately, despite the extensive lifesaving efforts, most of the animals did not survive,” the department said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Shelbyville Fire Department was assisted by Shelbyville Police, Shelbyville-Shelby County Animal Control, and Shelby County dispatchers.
