(AURORA, Ind.) – South Dearborn head football coach Rand Ballart has issued a statement following a game against Batesville on Friday.
Ballart has faced criticism for how he responded to a call on the field during the game.
“I used language unbecoming of a coach, leader, and mentor of young people. Additionally, when I raised my hands in frustration, my headphones left my hands and landed on the field,” he said.
He added that it was not intentional but takes full responsibility.
“As a coach, I know I am teaching more than just football-I am modeling how to handle adversity with composure and respect. On Friday night, I failed to do that. My actions did not meet the expectations of our players, fans, officials, or our school community, and for that I am truly sorry,” he said.
Ballart added that he expresses his apologies to the Batesville players, coaches and fans, along with the referees.
“I will use this experience as an opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow so that I can better represent our program and community moving forward,” he said.
