South Decatur grad speaks at National Be A Teacher Day conference

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – A South Decatur graduate spoke about teacher recruitment during a national conference on Thursday.
Alyson McIntyre-Reiger presented at the National Be A Teacher Day conference which was held in Washington, D.C.
National Be A Teacher Day was created by the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) to inspire students to pursue a career in teaching.
McIntyre-Reiger serves as the Indiana FCCLA State Advisor and executive director of LeadFCS. She
The Decatur County native launched the first Indiana Be a Teacher Day and works to inspire the next generation of educators.
On Thursday, she addressed the teacher shortage by sharing some initiatives that are happening in Indiana.
"Locally, we see schools creating signing days for students pursuing a degree in education. This increases public awareness about teaching opportunities and positively promotes the profession and those entering it,” she told the audience in Washington.
