(VERSAILLES, Ind.) — It was a capacity crowd at the historic Tyson Auditorium on Saturday night.
The South Ripley Raiders played their first varsity basketball game there in 17 years.
The Raiders hosted North Decatur and were able to get a 70-56 win at the historic gym.
During the game, nine former South Ripley coaches who coached at Tyson Auditorium were honored.
The school also took a moment to honor former players. The oldest in attendance had played basketball for Cross Plains in the 1950’s.
Tyson Auditorium was built in 1950 and was funded by James Tyson, who was a founder of Walgreens.
The 1954 Milan Indians played some games in the gym due to their homecourt being too small. The facility was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
