Will honor Batesville woman who was killed by drunk driver

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A unique pet-friendly event will take place for a good cause in Batesville in October.
21-year-old Riley Duerstock was tragically killed when her vehicle was struck by a drunk driver in northern Indiana in September 2023.
“Riley was a very giving young woman who was an egg and organ donor and a dog lover. Because of her gifts, three Hoosiers have a second chance at life, and a young family has the child of their dreams,” her mother, Jill, said.
Riley was a nursing student at the University of Indianapolis and loved her dog, and all dogs.
Her family will host the inaugural “Paws for a Purpose” walk-your-dog fundraiser in her honor.
The event will encourage community members to walk their dogs and there will also be a pie auction, snow cones, puppy chow and a kindness counter craft for children.
It will take place on October 4 at Liberty Park and all proceeds will go to the Riley Duerstock Nursing Scholarship.
During the event, the Indiana Donor Network and Mothers Against Drunk Driving will also be there.
The family is currently seeking businesses who would like to sponsor the event.
“We welcome any level of support you can give, and your name will be displayed at the event recognizing your generosity,” Jill said.
If you are willing to help, please make a check payable to "The Riley Duerstock Nursing Scholarship" and mail it to 336 Columbus Avenue, Batesville, IN 47006 by September 1. Any level of funding is appreciated.
If you prefer to pay another way or have questions, please feel free to contact the family at 812-614-2690.
