(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Preparations are underway for the annual church picnic at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Huntersville.
The picnic has been a long standing tradition that featured dine-in and carry out food, games, country store, Eureka Band, pie auction and more.
And don’t forget about the popular homemade ice cream!
A group of church members spent July 8 and July 9 working several hours to make 200 gallons of the special-recipe ice cream.
“There have been some deviations from the Church’s recipe over the years, depending on ingredient availability. The main ingredient that makes our Church’s ice cream different from most is the use of evaporated filled milk instead of just evaporated milk,” said one member.

A final preparation step is needed which is when the ice cream gets put in the testers.
The food menu at the picnic will feature chipped roast beef sandwiches, turtle soup and homemade German potato salad.
It will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. The church is located at 300 North Huntersville Road in Batesville.
