State Rep. candidate to host union cookout on Labor Day

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The democrat candidate for State Representative District 55 will host ‘Batesville Solidarity & Service Day’ community cookout on Monday, September 7. 

The Victoria Martz campaign is sponsoring the event which will be from 11-1:30 p.m. at United Steelworkers Hall, which is located at 320 W Pearl Street Suite B in Batesville.

Organizers say the family-friendly event will focus on workers rights, union history, and the vital role organized labor plays in strengthening Indiana’s workforce. 

“Attendees can enjoy a free cookout meal—including hot dogs, hamburgers, sides, and drinks—along with kid activities, a bounce house, and music provided by local business owner Bryan Bonilla of The Phoenix Empire,” organizers said. 

Representatives from USW Local 525 are also expected to speak about union organizing, meeting schedules, what unions do, and open job opportunities. Representatives with Teamsters and the Kroger Union (UFCW) have also confirmed attendance. 

“Guest speaker Victoria Martz will address attendees on how the community can strengthen workers' unions from a legislative perspective at the state level,” organizers added.
