(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Local students were introduced to jobs in the medical field during a recent Genesis: Pathways to Success camp called “Camp Scrubs and Stethoscopes.”
The 16 students began the camp with a tour of Margaret Mary Health where they were introduced to all aspects of healthcare offered at the hospital.
Students met the professionals and also participated in multiple hands-on activities for a real life experience.
Some experiences included creating replica IV bags, how to check vitals, speech pathology where they learned about diets for patients who have throat problems, and they even learned about changing diapers!
“Anesthesia was so cool and nerve wracking to think about what could happen if you messed up. It was my favorite section we talked about,” said Madison Pollard.

The students also gained CPR experience by practicing on dummies and learning the ratio of compressions to breaths.
“My favorite part of camp was the IVs. It was neat to see all the different steps on how to create them. There wasn’t anything I didn’t enjoy about camp,” said Jenna Pollard.
Genesis says they plan to host Camp Scrubs and Stethoscopes again next summer.
