Two local catchers recognized for sportsmanship

(MADISON, Ind.) – Two opposing catchers during a recent Sectional game are being recognized for their sportsmanship.

The umpire who worked the game awarded Rising Sun’s DJ Williams and Oldenburg’s Juston Dietz with the Exemplary Behavior Report.

The umpire said, “Polite, respectful, friendly. I was completely honored to work behind them. It was a close, back-and-forth matchup. They both stayed poised and focused, displaying perfect sportsmanship throughout.”

Oldenburg was able to hold on and beat Rising Sun by a final score of 6-5. The game was played at Shawe Memorial.  

Rising Sun Schools reacted to the news about DJ by saying, “As a school corporation, we are incredibly proud when our student-athletes represent Rising Sun with class, integrity, and respect. Athletic success is important, but the way our students conduct themselves is what truly defines our program,” Rising Sun Schools said.
