(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Margaret Mary Health is recognizing two employees for the compassion and professionalism they bring to the workplace.
MMH nurse Mario Selak received the DAISY Award which is given to nurses who put patients first in all encounters.
Selak was nominated by a patient’s family member who recognized his compassion during a difficult situation.
The family member said, “My mother fell ill and was hospitalized with pneumonia leading to sepsis and finally her demise. Mario discussed what the day would look like for my mom, knowing it would probably be her last."
“I feel my mother had a very peaceful passing, and it was largely due to his nursing excellence. I, as a nurse, have high expectations, and I have one word to describe Mario – perfect," they added.

Christy Honnert works as an Information Systems Manager at MMH and was given the BEE Award.
The BEE Award is given to non-nursing associates whose support also impacts patient care and outcomes.
Honnert was nominated by a co-worker for her professionalism and commitment to continuous improvement.
“There is not a problem she can’t solve. She’s open to change and provides guidance to assist individuals in addressing identified gaps. Those who interact with her have the utmost respect for her. She also demonstrates her caring attitude outside of work, providing assistance where needed and volunteering at church and school," the nominator said.
The DAISY and BEE awards are presented twice a year, and nominations can be submitted by anyone, including patients, family members, providers and staff.
All nominations are confidential and sent to an internal committee for consideration. Click here to submit a nomination.
