Two victims of Decatur Co. fire identified

(GREENBURG, Ind.) – The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people who passed away during a fire this past weekend.  

The fire occurred on South County Road 1000 West near County Road 600 South at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. 

The structure was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived and it took about an hour-and-half to get the fire contained. 

The victims have been identified as 51-year-old Lincoln Allen and 54-year-old Tamara Jo Shireman. 

“Decatur County first responders extend their sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of Lincoln K. Allen and Tamara Jo Shireman during this difficult time,” said Sheriff Bill Meyerrose. 

Earlier this week, the Letts Fire Department said one of the two victims had served on their department for many years. 

“Please also remember the firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, law enforcement officers, and others who responded. Calls like this stay with those who answer them, especially when the people involved are part of our community and our lives,” the department stated. 

Other departments that responded included Burney, Westport, Hartsville and Greensburg.

They were assisted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County Communications, Decatur County EMS , Decatur County Coroner's Office, Decatur County REMC, Indiana State Fire Marshals Office and the Decatur County Crisis Intervention Team. 

The incident remains under investigation.
