(HIDDEN VALLEY, Ind.) – Some local kids are getting a chance to participate in a unique sports league this summer.
The Hidden Valley Flag Football League is in its inaugural season and it features co-ed divisions from 6U to 12U.
There’s more than 130 kids in the league and it's designed to guarantee every child gets to play.
One of the main reasons this was created was to give girls more opportunities to play football.
“It has been incredible to watch the excitement, confidence, and competitiveness grow each week,” said founder Cody Janszen.
Another unique aspect of the league is that it's designed to not be time-consuming for families and also inclusive.
The season is intentionally short, with doubleheaders that allow kids to get plenty of playing time while keeping the schedule manageable for parents. Every team is guaranteed games, every kid gets to play, and no one is sitting on the bench.
The league is also set up in a unique way as families can stand in one area and be able to watch three games happening at once.
“There is music playing, a fun field layout, concessions, Kona Ice, ice cream trucks, and a true event atmosphere that gives families something to look forward to every week,” Janszen said.
Janszen says it was created this in an effort to provide an experience that feels bigger than typical youth focus.
“We invested in some of the best referees in the area, custom sublimated jerseys for every player, custom flags, organized schedules, a professional-style field setup, music, concessions, and an atmosphere where the kids feel like they are part of something special,” he said.
The league is in its third week of the season and there will be 16 games taking place on Thursday night at the Hidden Valley Lake Sports Complex.
