(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A new book that dives into the history of the Underground Railroad in Decatur County will be available this month.
The book was made possible by History In The 812's John Pratt following the passing of local historian and attorney Bill Smith last year.
“This book is a revised copy of an original work about the underground railroad written by Bill Smith about 20 years ago,” said Pratt. “95 percent of this new book is in Bill’s words and includes many stories that have never been shared. Even local history aficionados are likely to learn something new.”
It will be available for purchase during the Art on the Square Art Gallery on June 14 in Greensburg.
The release of the book is hosted by the ACCDC Freedom Trail Project, in partnership with the Decatur County Community Foundation.
It is scheduled from 10 a.m. 12 p.m. and will include a short program at 10:30 led by John Pratt.
Pre-sale book orders that were placed during the Bill Smith Underground Railroad Festival back in April can be picked up at the kickoff. The book can also be purchased that morning for $20.
Following the event on June 14, the limited-edition books can be purchased at the Decatur County Community Foundation. Book sales will benefit the ACCDC Freedom Trail Project Fund held at the Foundation.
Art on the Square Art Gallery is located at 114 East Washington Street.
