Versailles crash claims life of local man

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – One person passed away following a crash in Versailles on Friday. 

Crash investigators say 71-year-old Paul Schwarte, of Versailles, was operating a scooter on U.S. 421 near Clearview Lane when he entered into the path of a dump truck. 

Schwarte was struck by the dump truck and passed away from his injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not injured. 

Indiana State Police say alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash. 

The investigation remains ongoing.  

Agencies who assisted the ISP included the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Versailles Police Department, Ripley County EMS, Versailles Fire Department, and Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
