(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – The legacy of a sprint car driver will live on forever at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Justin Owen was making a qualifying lap at Lawrenceburg Speedway when he crashed and was killed on April 8, 2023.

The 26-year-old was the reigning track champion at the Speedway prior to his death.

On Wednesday night, more than 100 people gathered at the speedway to honor Owen on the anniversary of his passing.

Lawrenceburg Speedway Safety Director Bobby Gompf organized a surprise for Owen’s family.

The road that racers take from the pits to the track has been named Justin Owen Lane.

“Everyone of the drivers will have to go past that sign and will know that Justin Owen was a force to be dealt with at Lawrenceburg,” Gompf said.

He added, “Even though he is not here with us, he is still a force to be dealt with and his name will live on here forever here.”

The third annual Justin Owen Memorial Race will take place at the speedway this coming Saturday.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. and there opening ceremonies will begin at 8 p.m.  You can get more details below:
