Woman flown to hospital after minivan, tractor crash in Sunman

Happened on State Road 101 Monday night

(SUNMAN, Ind.) – A Sunman woman was flown to the hospital after an accident involving a minivan and tractor. 


The crash happened on State Road 101 between Penntown and Sunman around 9:30 p.m. Monday.


According to police, 58-year-old Tamara Fledderman was driving south in a Dodge Grand Caravan when her vehicle collided with a tractor hauling farm equipment that was traveling north. 


“The Grand Caravan was crushed in on itself from the hood of the vehicle, forcing Sunman Fire Department to extricate the female from the vehicle using the necessary tools to do so,” said Ripley County Sheriff Rob Bradley. 


Fledderman sustained major injuries’  and was transported by helicopter to a hospital, officials said. 


The driver of the tractor was not injured. 


The sheriff added that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash. 


He added that this crash serves as a reminder to pay attention for slow-moving farm equipment and spotter vehicles. 


The sheriff’s office was assisted by Sunman Fire, Ripley County Emergency Medical Services, and Ripley County Communications.
