(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Two cousins used their time together during Thanksgiving to make a difference in Dearborn County.
8-year-old Ruby Sanchez lives in Florida but flew home to spend time with her family.
Prior to the family dinner, Ruby pulled out a piece of paper with a prayer on it.
It read, “Thank God for giving us this food and I hope the homeless people have food too, just like us. Amen."
That prayer inspired family members like Lawrenceburg senior CharLeigh Combs to do something good for others.
Ruby and CharLeigh then made approximately 30 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
The cousins placed the sandwiches in the Blessing Boxes that are installed at various locations around the county. They also wrote a kind message and added stickers to each sandwich bag.
CharLeigh and Ruby hope their Thanksgiving initiative inspires others to donate to Blessing Boxes.
Blessing Boxes are small outdoor cabinets where people can anonymously take or donate non-perishable food or hygiene items.
Some local locations include the Aurora Dog Park, the Methodist Church in Aurora, Tanner Creek Boat Ramp and Hamlin Chapel in Lawrenceburg.
East Central FCCLA students also recently opened a food pantry in Sunman where donations can also be made. Click here to watch that story.
Here are a few additional photos of CharLeigh and Ruby including Ruby's prayer she wrote:
