Young mom, daycare worker diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer

(BRIGHT, Ind.) – A young mother who is a childcare worker has been diagnosed with a serious form of cancer. 

27-year-old Shelby Scalf works at God’s Bright Treasures Ministry in Bright where she serves as the Lead Infant Teacher. 

The childcare facility has announced that Scalf has Stage 4 cancer and they are hoping the community can rally around her. 

“This is the kind of news that stops you in your tracks. Shelby is more than just a coworker, she is a friend, a source of laughter, a helping hand on hard days, and someone who has touched so many lives in quiet, meaningful ways,” the facility stated. 

Shelby and her fiance have two children and are now embarking on an extremely tough battle.

“Medical bills, ongoing treatments, and time away from work can quickly become overwhelming. This is where we, as a community, can come together and show Shelby she is not alone,” the facility added. 

A benefit account has been created and you can make a donation at any First Financial Bank. It’s called “Shelby’s Fight” (account # 9781). 

“Any contribution, big or small, will help ease the burden and allow Shelby to focus on what matters most: fighting this illness and spending precious time with her fiancé Jake, son Roman and daughter Navy,” they said. 

Shelby’s Fight Benefit

A benefit will be held at the Harrison VFW Duwel Post 7570 from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. 

God’ Bright Treasures is seeking donations for gift baskets, silent auctions and monetary gifts.

The benefit will also feature split the pot, a corn hole tournament, music, food trucks and a bake sale.
