Canaan's music teacher is co-founder of The Mavericks

(CANAAN, Ind.) – Canaan Community Academy students are learning music from a nationally known Grammy-winning musician.

Robert Reynolds is a founding member of The Mavericks which are known for hits like “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" and "Here Comes the Rain.”

They’ve been nominated for 8 Grammy awards and won the Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group in 1996.

Despite being nationally known, Reynolds has been a music teacher at Canaan Community Academy for more than five years.

To the students he’s simply known as Mr. Robert.

“He's performed for thousands of people, but he's just as happy sitting with a student who is learning to play their first notes. Parents aren't even surprised anymore when their child hops off the bus carrying an instrument gifted to them by Mr. Robert,” the school said.

Reynolds is joining his bandmates for the ‘Mavericks & Friends Tour’ that will stop in cities throughout the United States and Canada over the next two years.

Robert will also be taking his students along for the ride during the tour!

The school is launching "Mr. Robert on the Road” which will allow students to keep up with his travels, performances and adventures.

“And here's the best part: Robert plans to give special shout-outs to his Canaan students throughout the tour,” the school said.

His visits to various areas will allow students to learn about different cities and also what a career in music can look like.

Canaan plans to show “Mr. Robert on the Road” on social media and you can follow their Facebook page by clicking here.

“We're proud of the opportunities our students have at Canaan Community Academy, and we're especially grateful that someone with Robert's experience has chosen to share his time and talent with our school,” they said.

The Mavericks will perform at the Blue Gate Performing Arts Center in Shipshewana on November 12.
