Decatur County EDC awards Teacher Grants to several projects

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Four Decatur County educators are receiving grant funds to continue unique projects in the classroom.

The Teacher Grants were awarded by The Greensburg/Decatur County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and totaled $4,000.

There were two grants given out at Greensburg High School on Wednesday.

Greensburg High School teacher Heather Comer received funding for her Early Childhood Education Immersive Community Classroom.

This initiative will simulate the seven classrooms of All 4 Kids, providing students with a practical teaching environment to gain confidence before working directly with children.

"Ultimately, the immersive classroom will help to prepare students for their future roles as educators by practicing their skills in a safe space," said Mrs. Comer.

Greensburg High School teacher Annie Wilkison received a grant to establish a healthcare simulation lab at the school.

Currently, the school’s simulation lab is off-site and only available to CNA students. The new lab will allow more students to explore careers in healthcare, meeting the growing demand for skilled professionals in the field.

The Decatur County EDC also awarded two projects at North Decatur:

At North Decatur, Megan Schildknecht was awarded funding for immersive field trips to Dallara Race Car Manufacturer, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Cummins Diesel Plant, aiming to expose students to the diversity and innovation within the manufacturing industry.

North Decatur counselors Barb Lecher and Jennifer Bowling were awarded a grant to launch a sports officiating course. It aims to provide students with the necessary training and certification to become certified IHSAA officials.

"By becoming certified officials, students will not only earn income but also develop professional skills that will serve them in various career paths," said Mrs. Bowling.

These grants were made possible through the generous support of Napoleon State Bank, Decatur County Memorial Hospital, Nipro PharmaPackaging, and Honda, who continue to invest in the future of Decatur County’s workforce and education system.

"At the EDC, we are thrilled to support our educators in their efforts to inspire and equip students with valuable skills for the future." said Emma Luttel, Project Coordinator at the Greensburg/Decatur County EDC. "It’s their passion and dedication that will make our community stronger for generations to come."
