(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A Seymour man is facing murder charges in connection to a death investigation in Dillsboro on Thursday.
33-year-old Brent David Wellman was booked into the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on charges of Murder and Resisting Arrest.
The investigation began around 5:40 a.m. after police received a report of gunshots on U.S. 50 near Campo Verde Drive and Gilday Drive in Dillsboro.
Police say they found a vehicle believed to be involved, before the driver allegedly sped away and crashed, and then fled on foot.
It led to a 5-hour search in the area before the suspect was taken into custody shortly after 11 a.m.
During the search, police say the body of a deceased male was found in a wooded area on Texas Gas Road near the intersection of Hueseman Road.
Police added that the male appeared to have been shot multiple times. The identity of the victim has not been released.
Prosecutors are expected to announce formal charges in the coming days.
