Watch here:
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – A group of scientists say the world is closer than ever to self destruction.
An organization known as the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists changed their ‘Doomsday Clock’ to 85 seconds from midnight on Tuesday.
For perspective, it was 89 seconds to midnight in 2025 and 3 minutes to midnight a decade ago.
The organization says the ‘Doomsday Clock’ is a tool they use to show how close we are to destroying the world through the developments of technology.
It was created in 1947 during the Cold War with a time of 7 minutes to midnight.
They moved it to 85 seconds to midnight on Tuesday citing a ‘failure of leadership’ and the scientists called for urgent action to limit nuclear arsenals, create international guidelines on the use of AI, and form multilateral agreements to address global biological threats.
