(SCIPIO, Ind.) – The high winds led to a grass fire in Jennings County on Sunday afternoon.
Scipio-Geneva firefighters responded around 1:20 p.m. to a property on County Road 400 North.
The fire was spreading into a wooded area before firefighters were able to extinguish it.
“The fire was determined to have started when a tree fell onto power lines due to high wind conditions, igniting the surrounding grass and vegetation,” said a Scipio-Geneva firefighter.
The department reminded citizens that severe storms are possible later tonight and to never approach downed power lines.
Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue assisted by Spencer Township Fire Department during the grass fire.
