(ST. LEON, Ind.) – The starting quarterback for East Central High School will soon be wearing a different uniform.
Senior Nolan Maple enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard on July 31.
Maple will graduate from East Central in December and will then attend basic training in March to train to become an Aviation Operations Specialist.
He plans to attend college after basic training where he will major in an Aviations-related field.
“Being a football player has taught me what it means to be part of a team, but I’ve been starting to realize that I will soon be joining a much bigger team,” Maple said.
Maple is in his final semester at East Central and credits the school for shaping the person he has become so far.
“It’s been an incredible experience. Especially being part of athletics, you can go to another town and get high school football, but you don’t get what happens here in St. Leon on Friday nights,” Maple said.
