(COLUMBUS, Ind.) – A person was rescued by first responders after a car went into the water in Columbus on Monday morning.
Columbus Police and Fire were called to Mill Race Park around 9:15 a.m. where they discovered a vehicle that was partially submerged in a pond.
Columbus police officer Jacob Driver and Columbus firefighter Seth Burton went into the water to rescue the driver.
“They were able to get help from the other first responders on shore and using ropes, pulled the vehicle toward the bank while it was still floating,” according to the Columbus Police Department.
First responders then broke a window and were able to get the driver out the vehicle and to the awaiting EMT’s.
Police say it appears the 31-year-old driver had suffered a medical issue that led to the car going into the pond
“I couldn’t be more proud of our first responders! They all came together to act quickly and save a life, the most important thing we can do in public safety”, said CPD Chief Steve Norman. “I also want to thank the callers that didn’t hesitate, allowing help to get there quickly.”
