Greensburg JAG program hosts Reality Check for 8th graders

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Eighth graders in Decatur County participated in the annual Reality Check on Tuesday. 

The annual event was organized by Greensburg High School Jag Specialist Jessica Barker and involved numerous organizations from across the county who assisted the students. 

Reality Check helps eighth graders understand fiscal responsibility by providing real-life scenarios in which they make financial decisions on matters regarding rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance and entertainment.

“I hope the participants get an understanding of how much everyday expenses can be by assessing their needs versus their wants,” Barker added.

The event was attended by students from Greensburg Junior High, St. Mary’s School, North Decatur and South Decatur.

Barker added that her JAG students were responsible for helping make the event a success. 

“This year it was very student driven as our entire JAG Third Bell students contacted the businesses, created the documents and volunteered in the actual event as well,” Barker said.
