(HOLTON, Ind.) – A Holton man was arrested after a police standoff early Tuesday morning.
Ripley County deputies responded to a report of a man breaking into a home around 3:20 a.m. on County Road 500 North, west of County Road 850 West.
The caller told police that two adults and two children were hiding a bedroom. The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Micah Hewitt.
“Deputies surrounded the residence and escorted the family out through a bedroom window to safety,” Ripley County Sheriff Rob Bradley said.
Deputies then started announcing on a public address system for Hewitt to exit the home and surrender. The Indiana State Police also responded with their SWAT Team.
Authorities obtained a search warrant and after several hours of ordering Hewitt to exit the home and surrender, the SWAT Team made forced entry into the home. Shortly after the home was breached, Hewitt came to a door and surrendered, police said.
Hewitt had two active felony warrants in Ripley County and had been evading arrest since 2023, Bradley added.
Ripley County EMS was on standby in the area for a rapid response if necessary.
