(MILAN, Ind.) – A Milan freshman is one step closer to making a life-saving difference in his community.
Wil Wheeler, who is also a Boy Scout, approached the Milan Fire Department last year with an idea he calls the Bee Alarmed Project.
The goal is to raise funds to buy smoke detectors and give them away to 150 local households for free.
Milan Fire Department assistant chief Rod Johnson embraced the idea and they have worked together to raise proceeds from the community.
The smoke alarms have now arrived at the firehouse and Wheeler was joined on Monday by representatives of organizations who have supported the cause.
Some of the organizations include Global Atlantic, Stedman Machine Company, Merrilees Hardware and Supply, Milan American Legion and the Milan Volunteer Fire Department.
The smoke detectors are expected to be distributed in the community in the near future.
