Milan High School unveils display in honor of distinguished graduate

ree

(MILAN, Ind.) – Milan High School is honoring one of their graduates by unveiling a permanent display.

Dr. David Mortara graduated from Milan in 1958 and later became a leader in the field of electrocardiography (EKG) while also making significant contributions to cardiology.

He founded Mortara Instrument, a medical technology company based in Milwaukee.

Dr. Mortara has attributed much of his success to Milan Schools and has been extremely generous over the past several decades.

A scholarship in his name has provided financial support to numerous Milan graduates and allowed them to pursue their higher education goals.

On Tuesday, Milan staff members, past scholarship recipients and community members gathered for the unveiling of the display.

The ceremony began by Milan Community Dollars for Scholars president Kris Clark giving a special presentation recognizing Dr. Mortara’s contributions.

Meanwhile, past scholarship recipient Josh Clark spoke about the impact Dr. Mortara has had on him.

"Dr. Mortara's scholarship meant more than financial support; it meant opportunity. This display ensures Dr. Mortara's generosity and vision are remembered by future generations,” Clark said.

The new display chronicles Dr. Mortara's life, philanthropic work, and the scholarship recipients whose paths were changed by his generosity.

It was made possible by donations from recipient families, SEI Communications and the Ripley County Community Foundation..

Students and community members are invited to view the exhibit in the school atrium during regular school hours.
