Mt. Carmel, Switz. Co. 4th graders win American Legion essay contest

They were recognized at St. Leon American Legion

(ST. LEON, Ind.) – Two fourth graders are being recognized for their writing skills and patriotism. 

Kate Meyer and Briar Duke are the winners of the 4th Grade Flag Essay & Education contest through the American Legion Ninth District. 

Meyer won the female content and is a student at Mt. Carmel School. She is the daughter of Jason Monnin and Carrie Meyer-Monnin.

Duke won the boy’s contest and is a Switzerland County Elementary student, he is the son of Brandon and Emy Jo Duke. 

The program is open to all Indiana fourth grade student and it encourages them to reflect on the significance of the American flag and its role in our nation’s history and values.
