(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A new nonprofit makes it their mission to recognize caregivers who go above and beyond when working with dementia patients.
Sweet Memories of Southeast Indiana was created to provide public education and professional awards for caregivers.
The nonprofit was created in memory of Robert and Irene Minger.
Robert was a Versailles native who served in World War II and the Korean War. He later worked in the hospital field as well as assisted living before passing away in 2002.
Irene taught at Carnegie Hall in Moore Hill. She passed away in 2022 after a long illness with dementia.
“Both Irene and Robert were caregivers in their own prospective careers. As a result, the family created Sweet Memories in their honor—to help those caregivers that go above and beyond by giving so much of themselves each and every day,” the nonprofit said.
Sweet Memories has just named their first-ever recipient of their yearly award. It was awarded to Courtney Allen who works as a qualified medication aide at Ridgewood Legacy Memory Care in Lawrenceburg.
The nonprofit’s board members are Suzanne Webster, Dr. Alex Orndorff, and hospice nurse Jenny Asche.
They take nominations for awards year-round and you can learn more about Sweet Memories by clicking here.
