(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Nine Greensburg High School students have earned their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through a summer course.
The nine students participated in an accelerated Summer CNA program which involved more than 70 hours in a simulation lab and at Aspen Place, along with 30 hours in the classroom.
“We have been fortunate to do clinicals at Aspen Place, as their hours must be done in a long term care facility. The new Healthcare Simulation lab has sparked a significant enrollment in our classes,” said GCHS CNA & Healthcare Instructor Annie Wilkison.
Senior Zackery Blodgett is one of the seniors who earned his CNA through the intense program.
“I think it is a great program especially if you’re looking to get into the medical field. It’s a great way to get introduced to it and learn a lot, especially about how to care for residents and patients,” Blodgett said.
Six of the nine graduates have already earned jobs in Decatur County because of the CNA program.
The GCHS Simulation Lab is made possible by the The Decatur County Community Foundation, Economic Development Corporation of Greensburg/Decatur County, Duke Energy and the Greensburg Retired Teacher's Association.
“I have been lucky to have the support of administration to bring the Simulation lab on campus where it is visible to the students and is able to be used by other classes offered at GCHS,” Wilkison added.
The Summer CNA graduates are:
Zackery Blodgett
Evangele Campbell
Carlie Case
