(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Rob Smith is no longer walking the halls of North Decatur Elementary, but his impact on the school will not be forgotten anytime soon.
Smith served as the principal for 28 years before retiring in May. Altogether, he had a 39-year career in education.
On Thursday, Smith received quite the surprise when he returned to the school.
The road in front of North Decatur Elementary was renamed “Rob Smith Drive.”
“We cemented his legacy by renaming the drive that leads to the school that he so passionately led for 28 years,” the school said.
The 812’s Valerie Weston spoke with Smith on his last day as principal and he said he would do it all again.
“I cannot tell you how blessed I am and how blessed I feel that I have been able to be a part of this community and this building,” Smith said.
