NWS confirms EF-2 tornado in Dearborn, Ohio counties

(AURORA, Ind.) – The National Weather Service confirmed on Friday that a second EF-2 tornado touched down in Southeast Indiana this past week.
The tornado started at 12:14 a.m. Thursday along Texas Gas Road in Dillsboro and went through Aurora, Ohio County and into Kentucky.
It picked up speed when it got to Cole Lane in Aurora where a garage was destroyed, a large tree fell onto a house and the roof was lifted off another garage.
“The tornado strengthened and proceeded east near East Laughery Creek Road, where it completely destroyed a house and two outbuildings,” NWS officials said.
NWS officials believe it reached its maximum speed of 130 miles-per-hour in that area.
The tornado continued toward Alta Vista Avenue, across Laughery Creek and Hartford Pike where there was significant tree damage.
“Along Holmes Hill Road, more tree damage was observed along with the roof being lifted off an outbuilding. On Thuermer Hollow Road, more trees were damaged and a roof was lifted off a barn,” officials said.
Along State Road 56, additional roof damage from a barn and damage to large trees was noted.
Numerous trees were also knocked down around Camp Shore Campground, officials added.
"The tornado weakened as it moved across the Ohio River into Boone County, Kentucky," the NWS said.
The tornado traveled nearly nine miles and had a maximum path width of 450 yards.
